Seymours will once again headline the Woking Car Show ensuring its return to the town centre in September. 
 
Thanks to the support of Seymours, this popular family-friendly event remains free for visitors and exhibitors to attend and will deliver a welcome boost for town centre retailers.  
 

Leaders from Surrey’s district and borough councils met last week to review the interim findings from the ongoing work into local government reform in the county.

As part of that meeting, leaders considered a proposal outlining a three-unitary authority model for Surrey.

A majority of district and borough councils expressed support for a three-unitary model, agreeing a preferred geography to enable further detailed analysis of the option to be carried out.

Waste and recycling collections

Your refuse collections will remain the same over the Easter bank holiday, as collection crews will be out and about as normal.

So once you’ve munched your chocolaty treats, don’t forget to recycle the packaging and any leftover food waste.

Woking Borough Council has issued seven Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to individuals following a spate of fly-tipping incidents last weekend at the Parley Drive community recycling site.

Despite clear signage and regular collections, the seven individuals were caught on CCTV illegally dumping household waste, prompting enforcement action as part of the council’s commitment to tackling environmental crime.

The site has become a hotspot for illegal waste disposal, with items such as mattresses, household appliances and black bin bags being abandoned.

Krinkels UK (formerly Continental Landscapes Ltd) has begun keeping the borough’s streets, parks and public spaces clean and well-maintained helping to deliver a cleaner, greener borough.

Following the award of the new street cleaning and grounds maintenance contract in October last year, Krinkels UK has taken responsibility for maintaining the borough’s public parks, play areas and sports pitches, as well as regular street cleaning and litter bin collections around the borough.

The leaders of all 12 Surrey councils have today submitted a joint interim proposal to government for local government reorganisation in the county.  

Surrey County Council and the 11 district and borough councils within Surrey have been working together on the options for local government reorganisation, following the directive from government in February. 

While many options have been analysed in detail, the submission to government outlines recommendations around either two or three unitary councils for Surrey. 

An interim plan for the reorganisation of local government in Surrey was approved by the Executive during Wednesday night’s extraordinary meeting (19 March).

During the meeting, the Executive considered comments made by councillors at an extraordinary meeting of Full Council (Tuesday 18 March) on the interim plan before approving its submission to government.

Councils across Surrey have worked together to develop and agree the interim plan, drawn up in line with government criteria, which considers options for two or three unitary authorities for the county.

We have commenced a programme of drainage and resurfacing works in Woking Park to extend the life of our popular jungle themed play area.

The play area, which sits at the foot of the Pool in the Park building, is impacted by rainwater run-off which has resulted in the gradual erosion of the footpaths and parts of the embankment.  

Essential maintenance works will take place at Brewery Road Car Park on Friday 14 March.

To facilitate these works, the car park will close from 8pm, Thursday 13 March until 12.01am, Saturday 15 March. Drivers will need to remove their vehicles before the closure begins as access to vehicles within the car park will be restricted during the closure period.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternative town centre parking facilities at Victoria Place Car Park.

A decision on starting the procurement of a new recycling and waste collection and street cleaning operator has been formally ratified by Elmbridge, Mole Valley, Surrey Heath and Woking councils. 

Since 2017, the four Surrey district and borough councils have been involved in a joint contract with Amey LG Limited for recycling, waste collection, and street cleaning services - although Woking is only included in the waste and recycling elements, with street cleaning managed separately.
