Woking’s McLaren Racing celebrates 2024 Constructors' Championship this half term

In recognition of McLaren Racing’s title-winning season, come and experience the thrill of motor racing in Woking Town Centre.

From Wednesday 19 until Sunday 23 February 2025, buckle up and get ready for some fast-paced, half term action at Victoria Place.

This five-day event, hosted by McLaren Racing for its home fans, includes driving simulators, an interactive pit stop challenge, and the chance to see a full-scale Formula 1 show car in the team’s new 2025 livery.

Statement from Surrey’s Leaders on the delay to local elections and plans for local government reorganisation in Surrey

Following statements in the House of Commons by Angela Rayner MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government, that Surrey will be part of the first wave of the government’s local government reorganisation agenda and that the local elections in Surrey will be postponed from May 2025 to May 2026, Councillor Hannah Dalton, Chair of the Surrey Leaders Group, has commented:

Express your interest in running Parkview Centre for the Community

Parkview is a light and bright purpose-built community centre located in the heart of Sheerwater that overlooks open green space and new homes. It is also situated next to the Basingstoke Canal and other community facilities.

The vibrant centre boasts a spacious hall, multipurpose function rooms, office space, a mirrored studio, and free on-site parking.

This self-contained facility is available now for local groups and community interest companies to make their own as part of the councils Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process.

Council to mark Holocaust Memorial Day

Woking Borough Council will join thousands of individuals and organisations across the nation in lighting a candle of remembrance on Monday 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. 

The day is a symbol of solidarity and reflection to remember the countless lives that have been lost or impacted around the world by genocide. 

This Holocaust Memorial Day marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.

Advance notice: Victoria Way car park to close on 14 February

Victoria Way car park will close for the foreseeable future on Friday 14 February 2025, following a recent structural review that highlighted the need for significant repairs.

Whilst the structural condition of the car park does not pose a risk to public safety, the detailed report recommends temporary closure until substantial repairs are undertaken. These repairs would involve considerable costs and ongoing maintenance liabilities.

Give a gift to schoolchildren with Rethink Waste

Help two local schools deliver environmental projects by signing up to Surrey Environment Partnership’s Rethink Waste scheme and taking part.

By signing up to Rethink Waste and completing fun, easy online activities that help you reduce waste, you earn points that you can donate to participating schools. At the end of each month, between January and March 2025, the two schools with the most points will take home a share of £1,000 that they’ll use to fund an environmental project.

Woking Borough Council is launching a further round of expressions of interest from local voluntary and community organisations for the transfer of Moorcroft Centre for the Community.

A former Victorian school building in Westfield, Moorcroft offers a spacious hall, welcoming café area and versatile facilities providing the successful group with opportunities to shape and sustain services for residents.

Council adopts robust long-term plan to improve housing services

A strategy for improving services for the Council’s housing tenants was adopted by councillors during a meeting of Full Council (Thursday 12 December).

The 30-year Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Business Plan sets out a framework to deliver safe and well-maintained homes that meet modern standards, whilst ensuring the council’s long-term financial stability.

It outlines the council’s plans to improve its service to council tenants and leaseholders and where it will prioritise investment in its housing stock.

Civic Offices closures

Over the festive period, Woking Borough Council’s Civic Offices will be closed from 4.45pm, Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9am, Thursday 2 January 2025.

The customer services phone line for non-essential services will be closed from 1pm, Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9am, Thursday 2 January 2025.

Whilst the offices are closed, essential services will continue over the festive period.

The 30-year Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Business Plan proposes a framework to deliver safe and well-maintained homes that meet modern standards, whilst ensuring the council’s long-term financial stability.

It outlines how the council will improve its service to council tenants and leaseholders and where it will prioritise investment in its housing stock.
