About the housing register

Service update: It is currently taking us approximately 6 to 8 weeks to process housing register applications and review supporting documents. Applications are registered in date order and urgent applications are prioritised. If you have submitted an application and you have not heard from us, please do not contact us.

Our housing register allocates vacant homes to individuals and families in the greatest need of housing. These homes could be:

  • council owned homes
  • housing association owned homes
  • homes rented to us by private landlords.

To be considered for a council property, you must apply to join our housing register.

Not all applications are accepted onto the register and successful applicants generally wait a number of years before they are offered accommodation.

It is important to note that the demand for housing is extremely high and we do not have enough social housing to meet the demand. With this in mind, we encourage housing register applicants to investigate other options such as privately renting.
