About the housing register

There are currently long delays on registering housing applications. Please bear with us. Those eligible for the Housing Register will have their application back dated to the date the form is received. You will receive confirmation of your application in due course.

Our housing register allocates vacant homes to individuals and families in the greatest need of housing. These homes could be:

  • council owned homes
  • housing association owned homes
  • homes rented to us by private landlords.

To be considered for a council property, you must apply to join our housing register.

Not all applications are accepted onto the register and successful applicants generally wait a number of years before they are offered accommodation.

It is important to note that the demand for housing is extremely high and we do not have enough social housing to meet the demand. With this in mind, we encourage housing register applicants to investigate other options such as privately renting.
