A neighbourhood forum is a community-led group that can be formally designated by the council to create a neighbourhood plan or order for a specific area where there isn’t a town or parish council.

Designations last for five years, and the council has received an application for redesignation from the West Byfleet Neighbourhood Forum. The West Byfleet Neighbourhood Forum was first designated in March 2014.

The applicant must show their forum continues to meet the conditions for designation, which are outlined in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and that it is representative of the community.

The council is therefore inviting comments from residents, businesses and other stakeholders, before deciding whether to redesignate this individual forum.

Cllr Louise Morales, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, said:

Neighbourhood forums give local residents and businesses greater influence over their local area, particularly with regards to planning.

They also play an active role in developing the character of an area leading on heritage and conservation projects and building community pride.

If you value your neighbourhood forum and love where you live, it’s important you let the council know.

Hard copies of the survey and application documents can be found at Woking Library and West Byfleet Library

The consultation is open until Monday 13 July 2026.
