Woking Railway Station public underpass closure

Planned essential repair work to the public underpass at Woking Railway Station is due to begin at the end of January.

The works, carried out by Woking Borough Council in partnership with Network Rail and South Western Railways, mean it is necessary to close the underpass from Monday 24 January 2022 for eight weeks.

Works include replacing damaged and loose stairs, in addition to general maintenance and improvements to the underpass.

Independent report provides confidence and reassurance on council finances

An independent review into Woking Borough Council’s financial position has said that the council is in a good position overall and highlighted areas of improvement already being worked on.

The independent report, which provides a detailed assessment of the council’s assets, liabilities and accounting position, was commissioned following agreement of the medium term financial strategy by the council’s Executive and a notice of motion agreed by Council at its meeting on 27 July 2021.

Planning Inspectorate upholds appeal for the EcoWorld development

The Planning Inspectorate has allowed the appeal by developer, Goldsworth Road Development LLP, regarding its planning application for the land to the north and south of Goldsworth Road, Woking (appeal ref: APP/A3655/W/21/3276474). This means that planning permission has been granted for the ‘EcoWorld’ development.

Sprinter, Tyler Panton, named Woking’s Sports Personality of the Year 

Tyler Panton has been named Woking’s 2021 Sports Personality of the Year for his rapid progression on the athletics track.

The annual Sport Woking Awards recognise the achievements of Woking’s sporting elite and celebrate those involved in helping others to achieve their personal best.

Well on his way to becoming a world-class athlete, Tyler Panton, a member of Woking Athletics Club, regularly records 100m and 200m sprint times of 10.6 seconds and 21.5 seconds respectively.

Give a gift to the planet and remember to recycle your Christmas tree

There are a number of ways you can recycle your Christmas tree.

Trees can be taken to the Martyrs Lane community recycling centre or to a local garden centre that offers a recycling option. Please check with the garden centre before making your trip.

In addition to Martyrs Lane community recycling centre you can drop off your tree at one of the four locations shown below between Wednesday 5 and Sunday 16 January 2022. Signage will be in place at each location.
