Hundreds of Year 6 students from across Woking have once again participated in the well-established health and safety course for young people, Junior Citizen.

Junior Citizen offers a series of fun but informative sessions aiming to teach valuable life skills that will keep students safe.

The interactive ‘stranger danger’ demonstration, led by Surrey Police, was a particular favourite with students as they were deliberately but unsuspectingly led away by an actor to highlight the need to have their wits about them.

At 8.30pm on Saturday 26 March 2022, Woking Borough Council will join millions across the world to mark WWF's Earth Hour by switching off its lights for one hour to show it is committed to protecting the future of our planet.

Woking’s much-anticipated new retail, residential and leisure destination, Victoria Place Woking, has officially opened today (Wednesday 23 March 2022).

The opening was celebrated with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Woking, Cllr Liam Lyons, and Leader of Woking Borough Council, Cllr Ayesha Azad. The ceremony marked both the official opening of the destination and anchor store, Marks and Spencer (M&S).

CREST22 Business Awards, Surrey’s only green business awards, announced today that it is extending its deadline from 25 March to midnight on Friday 8 April.

The free-to-enter awards, are looking for green business heroes either working in or based in Surrey, which outside of London, has the country's largest economy.

Up to £10,000 of funding per household is up for grabs in Surrey but for a limited time only.

Householders across Surrey are being urged to act quickly to claim a share of up to £10,000 each which is available to improve home energy efficiency - one of the simplest ways of saving energy and combatting rising energy prices.

More funding has been made available as part of the central government scheme which will provide grants to eligible homeowners to improve energy efficiency in their homes, cut heating costs and help the environment.

The pedestrian underpass at Woking Railway Station, which connects the southern and northern sides of Woking, has reopened to the public following essential repair and refurbishment works. 

Over the past eight weeks, the works were carried out by Woking Borough Council in partnership with Network Rail and South Western Railway.

Victoria Place Woking is pleased to announce that major brands Marks & Spencer, Moss Bros and Skechers will be opening at the centre on Wednesday 23 March, whilst food and drink brand Gail’s is also set to open.

Komo and Itsu will be adding to the line-up in spring, and will be joined by The Gym Group in yet another first for Woking.

“Today [9 March 2022] we raise the Ukrainian flag above the Civic Offices in support of Ukraine and its citizens, and in support of freedom and democracy the world over.

A statue of former long-term resident and leading suffragette, Dame Ethel Smyth, was unveiled in Woking Town Centre to celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March).

Located in the newly pedestrianised Dukes Plaza, the official unveiling saw the Mayor of Woking, Cllr Liam Lyons, joined by invited guests including distant relatives of Dame Ethel, artist Christine Charlesworth, academics and councillors celebrate her life and recognise the important work she did for women’s rights and equality.

“Like most people in the world who live in free, elected democracies, the people of Woking are stunned and appalled at the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, and in particular, the media reports of such barbaric attacks on civilian areas and installations in some of Ukraine’s cities.
