Equality, diversity and inclusion

Find out what equality, diversity and inclusion means for our staff, residents and services, including our annual report and action plan.

Our approach

We are committed to creating a fair, inclusive and respectful environment for everyone who lives, works or visits Woking. We believe that embracing diversity and promoting equality strengthens our communities and improves the quality of our services.

Our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion is guided by the principles of fairness, dignity and respect. We work to ensure that no one is disadvantaged or discriminated against because of their background, identity or circumstances.

We actively listen to our residents, employees and partners to understand the barriers they face and to co-create solutions that foster inclusion. Whether through our policies, services or community engagement, we strive to reflect the rich diversity of our borough and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our objectives

We have set three corporate equalities objectives, to:

  • lead by example, to ensure every individual resident is connected and supported - as a community leader
  • deliver inclusive services in accordance with our values - as a service provider
  • lead a diverse and inclusive workforce that is reflective of Woking where colleagues feel safe, confident, and are empowered to challenge and bring about change - as an employer

These objectives will be reviewed every year.

Equalities and wellbeing Working group

This group has been established to drive forward the Equality Action Plan, bringing together key individuals from across the Council with experience and a passion for the equalities agenda.
