Patterns
Content design patterns, including making content stand out, external linking, starting an online form, downloading a document and more.
Downloadable documents
The user should be introduced to the downloadable document.
The link should be featured on a separate line and not in the middle of content. This improves readability, accessibility and usability.
Saving documents into the media library
Before saving in the CMS, rename the document as it needs to appear on the webpage.
Example: ‘Business rates recovery policy’.
When renamed:
- upload the document via Media > Media library
- select ‘Add media’
- select ‘Document’
- complete ‘Add document’ details, select ‘Root directory’ topic and save
- write the intro text for the PDF and add a paragraph return
- select the ‘Media library’ icon in the WYSIWYG and choose the correct document
Replacing a document
To add a new version of an existing document:
- find the item in the media library
- scroll down to ‘Replace file’
- upload the new version
- double check the name field is correct
This approach should mean that any pages that are pointing to existing files should still be pointing to the most up to date version of the document. It also means there should not be old versions of the same document available to users.
The ‘Overwrite original file’ slider will be switched on by default.
