The future of Fiery Bird
Statement from the Leader of the Council about the planned closure of Fiery Bird.
Responding to the news shared by Fiery Bird, Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said:
I was saddened to hear that the Fiery Bird community and music venue plans to close its doors. It’s a welcoming space for artists, audiences and community groups and makes a huge contribution to Woking’s cultural life.
Officers have worked with the Phoenix Cultural Centre to help them secure premises and temporary operating space, as well as signposting them to relevant grants and funding opportunities. We have also explored longer-term solutions where possible, within the financial constraints the council faces. I have spoken to Elaine many times over the years, most recently just last week, and I’m disappointed that we cannot do more.
Everyone involved with the Fiery Bird has a passion and commitment to Woking’s cultural scene, and I hope the spirit of the venue will continue in a new form for our community in the future.
