Woking Car Show drives record numbers into town

Popular with visitors of all ages, this year’s event recorded its highest footfall to date, providing a welcome boost for retailers and creating a lively buzz in town.

More than 100 privately owned cars lined the pedestrian parts of town, interspersed with a selection of replica movie cars and characters which drew a crowd wherever they went.

Event organiser, Terry Fox, a classic car enthusiast from Horsell, said: 

“I’m so pleased to have delivered another successful event for the town and enormously grateful for the support of our sponsors, Seymours Woking, McLaren Automotive and Hilton Woking, who made it possible.

“There would of course be no event without the privately owned cars on display. Their colourful paint jobs and high-shine finishes looked even more impressive in an urban setting. I’m truly grateful to our exhibitors who got up early on Sunday morning and committed to spending the whole day in town. I hope everyone found it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”

The models on display included a McLaren 750S, a Lamborghini Aventador with Italian stripe detail, an attractive blue and cream Panther Kallista Convertible, a Triumph Herald 13/60, a vintage Aston Martin DB4, a Daytona Blue Pearl Nissan GTR, and the Hogsback Brewery’s custom bike with beer barrel sidecar.

As visitors took photos, spoke with vehicle owners and whizzed around town with the Sporting Bears, the sounds of local buskers filled the air, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

At midday, Woking Rock Choir performed on the steps of Jubilee Square. The 50-strong ensemble performed hit covers including ‘Somewhere only we know’ and the Friends theme tune ‘I’ll be there for you.’  

Throughout the event, visitors could vote for their favourite vehicle on display. The winner, receiving three times as many votes as any other vehicle, was a 1956 Ford F100 pick-up truck with a 5.7 V8 engine and automatic T350 gearbox. The owner, John Crittenden from Datchet, was awarded an overnight stay for two, with breakfast, courtesy of sponsor, Hilton Woking.

The Mayor of Woking, Cllr Rob Leech, and the Leader of Woking Borough Council, Cllr Ann-Marie, attended the event to show their support and thank both sponsors and exhibitors for their involvement.
