Patrons of local restaurants, bars and pubs can show their appreciation for their favourite establishment by voting for them in the Woking Best Bar None People’s Choice Award.

Voters can enter a free prize draw for their chance to win a weekend away for two in a luxury hotel in Dartmoor National Park. There’s also a runner up prize of £100 of vouchers to spend in two premises of your choice, that win a Best Bar None 2018 Award.

Many restaurants, bars and pubs have already registered for Woking’s Best Bar None scheme, sponsored by locally based drinks firm, Asahi UK Ltd. The scheme aims to promote and encourage the responsible management and operation of licensed premises across the Borough. As an accredited scheme, it seeks to recognise and reward licensed premises that provide a safe, responsible environment in which everyone can enjoy an evening out.

As well as the People’s Choice Award, venues that have registered with the scheme have the chance to win one of six other awards, chosen by an independent panel of expert judges.

The awards are:·

  • Overall Best Bar None Award
  • Best Town Centre Pub
  • Best Local Pub· Best Bar
  • Best Dining Experience
  • Asahi Social Responsibility Award

Cllr Debbie Harlow, Chair of Woking Borough Council’s Licensing Committee said: “Best Bar None promises to be a success, with many venues having registered for the scheme. Now it’s over to the people of Woking to show their support and vote for their favourite restaurant, bar or pub to see them honoured with the title of most popular licensed premises in Woking.

“The Best Bar None scheme helps make the Borough a healthy and safe place to live, work and socialise, it recognises those premises who really contribute to making a difference in our community.”

Over the coming weeks, premises will be visited by qualified Best Bar None assessment officers from Asahi UK Ltd and Woking Borough Council and to assess how well they meet current licensing and trading laws. Those meeting the Best Bar None criteria will be accredited to the scheme and allowed to display a gold, silver or bronze sticker in their premises window.

Points will be awarded for steps taken to prevent crime and disorder; plans for ensuring public safety; dealing with public nuisance like noise, litter and waste; and demonstrating steps to protect children from harm, such as having robust proof of age policy in place.

Woking Best Bar None is sponsored by Asahi UK Ltd, and supported by the Woking News & Mail, Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey and Surrey County Council.
