A series of modernisation and improvement works are underway at Woking’s Pool in the Park, as part of a £2 million investment programme.

Key to these works is the refurbishment of the pool’s changing room facilities. The modern and welcoming family-friendly changing facilities will feature improved accessibility and dementia friendly colour schemes which are Changing-places ready.

Changing Places facilities incorporate equipment such as a hoist, curtains, adult-sized changing benches and enough space for carers that enable people with a range of disabilities to use the changing areas safely and comfortably, as well as new showering facilities.

In addition, the works will address a number of structural issues including strengthening the roof beams and spectator gallery. New glazing will ensure the building is warm and energy efficient, whilst a fully refurbished atrium will create a welcoming environment.

Cllr Colin Kemp, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Woking Leisure Centre and Pool in the Park, said: “We are committed to providing the best leisure facilities possible to our residents. These leisure facilities are a key part of our commitment to the Health and Wellbeing of all age groups in our community. Working with our leisure services partner, Freedom Leisure, we are making the necessary investment to create first class, family friendly leisure facilities for all.

“The addition of the Changing Places-ready changing rooms will ensure that the facilities are accessible for the whole community, refurbishments to the heating and cooling system are under way and should be completed in February. The next phase of works will be the ongoing overhaul of the roof.”

Steve May, Freedom Leisure Area Manager, added: “These works continue the much-needed improvements to Pool in the Park and will create leisure facilities that will really be an asset to the community. We’d like to thank customers for their patience during these ongoing works but will do all that we can to keep disruption to services to a minimum.”

These works follow the opening of two new distinctive, family-friendly slides during the summer. During the works, Pool in the Park will remain open however there may be some disruption to users during the changing room works. The works to the changing rooms will complete in June 2020.
