Long-term closure of the Red Shoppers' Car Park

Date:

Thursday, 3 January, 2019

To prepare for demolition works, the Shoppers’ Red Car Park in Woking Town Centre will be closed to the public from Sunday 6 January 2019. The Blue and Yellow Car Parks, which form part of the complex, will remain open as usual.

Demolition has been approved for the current Shoppers’ Red Car Park and plans are being developed for a brand new, bigger, better car park in its place.

The new structure is scheduled to be complete at the same time as the Victoria Square development, which is on target to be open in time for Christmas 2020.

During the period of change, drivers are encouraged wherever possible to plan their journey in advance by visiting woking.gov.uk/liveparkingupdate and, if necessary, consider alternative methods of travel during busy periods, including public transport, taxis, by bike or on foot.

Use of Heathside Car Park is also encouraged as an alternative during weekends and evenings. Just a short walk from the town centre, it provides parking for season ticket holders and commuters during weekdays but at weekends serves as convenient parking for visitors to Woking, with good access to all amenities.

Season ticket holders have previously been contacted and reassigned to alternative car parks within the complex. Council officers have been working closely with the New Victoria Theatre to ensure that audiences are alerted to potential parking delays during peak times and have the opportunity to make alternative arrangements.
