Judging to find this year's Woking Best Bar None begins

Date:

With just over two weeks until the Woking Best Bar None Awards, judging this year's Gold accredited premises has begun to find the Borough's best local bars, pubs and restaurants.

Since May, local bars, pubs and restaurants have registered with Woking's Best Bar None scheme, sponsored by locally based drinks firm, Asahi UK Ltd. The scheme aims to promote and encourage the responsible management and operation of licensed premised across the Borough.

As a nationally accredited scheme, Best Bar None seeks to recognise and reward licensed premises that provide a safe, responsible environment in which everyone can enjoy an evening out.

Premises that have registered have been visited by qualified Best Bar None assessment officers to evaluate how well they meet current licensing and trading regulations. Points were awarded for steps taken to prevent crime and disorder; plans for ensuring public safety; dealing with public nuisance issues such as noise, litter and waste; and demonstrating steps to protect children from harm, such as having robust proof of age policy in place.

Those that met the Best Bar None criteria were awarded either Gold, Silver or Bronze accreditation and given a sticker to display in their premises window. Premises that received Gold accreditation will now be judged to find this year's Best Bar None winning premises. They are:

  • Cellar Magneval, Woking Town Centre
  • Las Iguanas, Woking Town Centre
  • New Haweli, West Byfleet
  • Slug and Lettuce, Woking Town Centre
  • The Cricketers, Horsell
  • The Garibaldi, Knaphill
  • The Inn at Maybury, Maybury
  • The Nags Head Inn, Knaphill
  • The Ogilvy, Woking Town Centre
  • The Sovereigns, Woking Town Centre
  • The Yeoman Harvester, West Byfleet

Cllr Debbie Harlow, Chair of Woking Borough Council's Licensing Committee, said: "We're delighted that so many licensed premises across the Borough have received Gold accreditation and are now shortlisted for one of the seven Best Bar None categories. The judging process will now commence and I wish each licensed premises every success."

In further news, voting in the Woking News and Mail People's Choice Award has now closed with the winner set to be announced at the glittering awards evening on Tuesday 16 October 2018, along with the winners of the following categories:
