Overview

A ‘private tenant’ is someone who rents a privately owned home.  

These homes are usually rented from:

  • a private landlord
  • a letting agent

If you are a: 

  • council tenant, go to council tenants
  • housing association tenant, please contact them direct
  • lodger living in someone else’s private home, go Citizens Advice Bureau for your rights as a lodger
