Report housing repairs to your landlord or letting agent

When a repair is needed in your home, you should contact your landlord or letting agent. Tell them what's wrong with your property.

How to report a repair

We recommend you do so in writing so you can keep a record. For example, contact them by email, text or letter.

Visit Shelter for more information on report repairs to a private landlord or agent.

What your landlord or letting agent must do

Your landlord or letting agent must respond to an emergency within 24 hours.

If the repair reported is not an emergency, your landlord or letting agent must:

  • get back to you within 14 days
  • let you know what repairs they are going to do and by when

If they do not respond to you or fix the problem, you can report your landlord or letting agent.
