Report a problem with your landlord or letting agent
You can report you landlord or letting agent to us if they do not:
- respond within 14 days
- carry out the repairs needed
What we can do
When we receive your report, our housing standards team may contact you to:
- ask you for information about the repair needed
- ask you for details of your contact with your landlord or letting agent
- ask for photos of the repair needed
- visit your home to understand the problem
We will then:
- contact your landlord or letting agent to talk about your concerns
- visit your home to complete a Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) inspection
- tell your landlord or letting agent what they must do and by when
If your repairs are not done or are unfinished
We can:
- force your landlord or letting agent to do or re-do the necessary repairs
- stop or limit how the property is being used
- fine your landlord or letting agent
Get back your rent payments
You may be able to get rent back if your landlord or letting agent does not follow our instructions and the law.
