How to respond to the annual canvass

Follow the instructions in the communication you received from us. Reply with one of the following options when necessary.

Respond online

The quickest way to respond is online. It will only take a few minutes.

You will need your unique security code found in either the email or letter we sent to you.

Respond online using our Household Response Service

Respond by telephone

If there are no changes to be made, call us on the number below.

Respond by text

If there are no changes to be made, text 80212 with 'NOCHANGE' followed by your unique security code. Your standard charges apply.

If nobody is eligible to vote, please include the reason after the security code. For example, the property is:

  • empty
  • a business
  • a second home

Respond by post

If you cannot use one of the services above, you can complete the form and post it back to us using the prepaid envelope supplied.

If you do not respond

If you do not respond, we will contact you again either by:

  • an email or text message
  • a letter
  • a telephone call

If you still do not respond, you may get a door knock at your home by a canvasser. This is someone employed by us to check your details. 

If you get a visit from a canvasser, they must should you their photo ID before asking you any questions.

If you do not provide the requested information at all, you can be fined up to £1,000.
