What is the annual canvass
We are required by law to keep an up-to-date electoral register.
Each year, we check the information we hold for every property in Woking. This is known as the annual canvass.
We will contact your household and ask you to:
- check that the people listed at your address are correct
- tell us about anyone who has moved in or out
- add any eligible residents who are not listed
You must provide the information we ask for. Only one person in the household needs to respond.
Who should be included
Include everyone who lives at the property and is eligible to register to vote.
This includes:
- people aged 16 or over
- British and Irish citizens
- qualifying EU citizens
- Commonwealth citizens who have permission to remain in the UK or who do not need permission to remain in the UK
If you add a new person to your household and they wish to vote in future elections, they will need to register to vote.
Responding to the annual canvass is not the same as registering to vote
Responding to the annual canvass does not register you to vote.
You are not automatically registered because you respond to the annual canvass or pay Council Tax.
If you want to vote in future elections, you must register separately.
