Your responsibilities

As a council tenant, you must:

  • pay your rent on time
  • keep your home in good condition
  • not cause nuisance or antisocial behaviour, including excessive noise or damage to property
  • make sure your visitors do not cause nuisance or antisocial behaviour
  • allow access for safety checks, inspections and repairs
  • keep pets responsibly by following our pet policy and preventing nuisance
  • pay for any damage caused by your pets
  • be considerate of your neighbours and understand that some everyday noise is normal
  • try to resolve minor issues with neighbours calmly and respectfully, where it is safe to do so
  • respect your neighbours, shared spaces and the wider community

We take a fair and proportionate approach to tenancy issues. We will work with you to resolve problems before taking formal action.

We will consider your circumstances, including any vulnerabilities.

If you do not meet your tenancy responsibilities, we may take action under your tenancy agreement. This could include support, warnings or legal action in serious cases.
