Ending your council home tenancy

What happens after you end your council home tenancy

After you return your keys, we will inspect the property.

We will check that you have completed any repairs or other work that were your responsibility.

You may be charged if:

  • you do not complete repairs that are your responsibility
  • you leave possessions, furniture, carpets or rubbish in the property
  • you leave items in gardens, sheds or outbuildings
  • you return your keys after your tenancy ends

Any items left in the property will be disposed of. We will not store them after your keys have been returned.

How to return keys

You must return all keys and door entry fobs by midday on the Monday your tenancy ends.

This includes keys for your post box, shed and any outbuildings.

We may charge you an additional week's rent if you return your keys late.

Put all keys in a clearly labelled envelope marked for the attention of Woking Borough Council. Include the property address on the envelope.
