Homeshare proposal for Woking

We are working with Shared Lives Plus, a registered charity and membership body for homeshare schemes, to research the feasibility of offering a homeshare scheme in Woking.

What is a homeshare?

Homeshare enables two unrelated people to share a home for mutual benefit. Typically, an older householder with a room to spare will be carefully matched with a younger person who will provide an agreed amount of support in exchange for sociable and affordable accommodation.

The support provided by the homesharer might include help with daily living tasks such as cleaning, shopping, gardening, overnight security and companionship. Together, the householders and homesharers share home life, time and skills.

Homeshares:

  • helps older people stay independently at home for longer
  • provides affordable accommodation at a time of record housing shortages and high rent
  • builds stronger and more resilient communities.
