Comment on a Gambling Act 2005 licence

What happens after we receive a new gambling premises licence application, including comments from responsible authorities and how interested parties can make a representation (objection).

They should relate to at least 1 of the following: 

  1. the Gambling Commission’s codes of practice
  2. the Gambling Commission’s guidance to licensing authorities
  3. the 3 gambling objectives and our statement of gambling policy

You must be an interested party and your comments must be relevant. 

Interested parties 

An interested party is someone who: 

  • lives sufficiently close to the premises to be affected by the proposed activities 
  • has business interests that might be affected by the proposed activities 
  • represents people in either of the above groups (for example a lawyer, accountant, councillor or community association)  

Responsible authorities

We send copies of all licence application to all the responsible authorities in Woking, so that they have the opportunity to comment. The responsible authorities in Woking are:

  • Woking Borough Council’s relevant departments including licensing, environmental health, health and safety and planning
  • Surrey County Council relevant departments such as children and young people’s learning services
  • The Gambling Commission
  • Fire
  • Police
  • HM Revenue and Customs

Other persons, such as the Secretary of State, may add regulations.
