The Woking Borough Council Digital Action Plan was updated in January 2025, and is focused on delivering digital outcomes.
Workstream 4: Make our infrastructure and systems modern, secure and interoperable
Intended outcomes
- Connectivity is great for both residents and staff wherever they are on our estate.
- We have full control over the data in all our back-office systems, and are able to extract and analyse that data to improve services.
- Staff are not physically constrained as to where or how they access systems and data.
- We have a clear architectural vision and roadmap.
- We have a cost-efficient and resilient technology estate, centrally managed and regularly reviewed to prove value for money.
- Our people have a streamlined, intuitive and seamless experience of line-of-business systems.
Progress so far
- Rolled out SOC and SIEM, significantly increasing our security posture and resilience.
- High Microsoft Secure rating.
- Reviewed all security policies.
- Upgraded backups and hosting arrangements.
- Upgrading our connectivity speed and Wi-Fi across our estate.
- Upgrading MFDs (printers and scanners).
- Begin rollout of Single Sign On to ease access to applications.
- All laptops are now managed devices.
- Overhauled internal governance with digital representation at the Financial Control Panel, to increase effectiveness of digital decision making across the council.
- Completed three audits reviewing the estate with most recommendations completed.
2025-2026 priorities
- Continue to simplify the estate.
- Upgrade telephony.
- Explore data platform models.
