Public space protection orders (PSPO)

Local authorities can issue public space protection orders (PSPOs), as a result of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 - Legislation.gov.uk

The powers provide additional tools to challenge persistent and unreasonable behaviour that affects the community.

A PSPO for Woking town centre was in place between February 2022 and February 2025. This has been discussed at Joint Action Group meetings over the years.

After reviewing the data, they decided there was not enough evidence to extend the PSPO. It was agreed that partner agencies has other powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre, such as dispersal orders.

If anti-social behaviour increases in the future, we will review the various tools and powers from different agencies to deal with reports.  We are committed to keeping our town centre a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

For further information, read the Woking Town Centre Public Space Protection Order Decision Details - Moderngov.

If you have any questions about the PSPO, contact our anti-social behaviour officer.
