Street naming and numbering
Register a new address, rename or renumber a street, apply for a property name, report a damaged or missing street name sign.
Rename or renumber a street
We sometimes have to rename or renumber a street, if:
- there is confusion over a street's name or numbering
- the majority of residents are unhappy with their street name
- new properties are built in a street and there is a need for other properties to be renumbered to accommodate the new properties
- the number of named-only properties in a street is seen to be causing confusion for emergency services and postal deliveries
We will directly consult with affected residents, if we feel there is sufficient evidence to warrant a change of name or numbering.
Submit a request
If you live on a street and want to change the street name, you must:
- canvass other residents to gauge the level of support for the proposal
- submit justified reasons in writing to us
Email: addressing@woking.gov.uk
We will then consult directly with affected residents to independently canvass their views.
To make a change, we must get support from a majority (51%) of the owners of the properties in question. We will also consult the local ward councillors.
