Council to visit households yet to respond to annual canvass
Households that have not responded to the annual canvass may receive a visit from a council canvasser.
Representatives working on behalf of Woking Borough Council are set to visit households this autumn that are yet to respond to this year's annual canvass.
The annual canvass is a legal process carried out each year to ensure the electoral register is accurate and up-to-date.
Over the past couple of months, the council has contacted households in the borough by post, email and telephone asking them to complete and return the canvass form.
Households yet to respond, where contact details are available, have also been sent SMS or email reminders encouraging them to complete the canvass.
Representatives, known as canvassers, will visit households yet to respond on weekdays between 9am and 7pm and weekends between 10am and 6pm from Saturday 10 October 2026.
When a canvasser visits, one person from the household will be asked to confirm if the details held are correct and provide any missing information. The canvasser will also be able to provide guidance on completing the form.
If no one is at home, information will be left explaining how to respond.
All canvassers will identify themselves by wearing an official Woking Borough Council identification badge. Residents are encouraged to ask to see identification before sharing any information.
Adesuwa Omoregie, Electoral Registration Officer for Woking Borough Council, said: “Over 4,100 households across Woking need to act urgently and respond to this year's annual canvass to ensure their details are accurately recorded on the electoral register.
"Responding is quick and easy. Residents are urged to return your canvass communication promptly or take a few moments to speak with a canvasser if you are visited in person.
“Residents who have moved home in recent months should pay particular attention and check that their details are correctly recorded at their current address. Your vote matters, don't lose it."
The deadline to return your annual Canvass form is Monday 30 November 2026.
