Domestic abuse is rarely a one-off incident. It is usually a pattern of abusive control and can take many forms, including:

• psychological abuse (such as criticism, isolation and threats)
• physical abuse (such as slapping, pinching, beating and strangulation)
• sexual abuse (such as rape)
• financial abuse (such as withholding money)
• emotional abuse (such as humiliation, guilt and aggression)
