Licensing conditions for a premises licence

A premises licence is granted on 2 conditions. 

Mandatory licensing conditions

The Licensing Act 2003 introduced conditions that apply to all relevant premises in England and Wales. These conditions relate to:

• responsibility for compliance
• irresponsible promotions
• provision of potable water
• age verification
• small measures
• sale of alcohol below the cost of duty plus VAT

Additional mandatory conditions apply if a premises has door staff or shows films.

Conditions consistent with the operating schedule

On your premises licence application form you must describe the steps you intend to take to promote the 4 licensing objectives. 

We advise that you:

• are realistic and enforceable – a general statement such as 'There will be no trouble or drunkenness on the premises' is not a good choice, as the licence would be in breach of its conditions if ‘trouble’ did occur at the premises
• do not contradict or duplicate the mandatory licensing conditions or other relevant legislation
