Help paying your housing rent

How we can help if you're struggling to pay your rent and what happens if you do not pay.

Missed housing rent payments

If your rent is not paid, the money owed is called 'rent arrears'.

We will send you a letter, email, text message or phone message to ask you to pay the missing payment by a named date.

If you’re unable to make a one-off payment, contact us.

We will ask you how much you can afford to pay and compare it to:
• the amount you owe
• your usual payment history

If we agree amount with you, we will set up a payment plan to clear your rent arrears.

We will not ask you to pay an amount which is unreasonable.

If you do not contact us and continue to miss your payments, we may take legal action against you.

Legal action is our last resort. We encourage you to speak to our Housing Income team.
