You can raise a digital experience work request for a a QR code.
This service is only available for internal staff.
You will need to tell us:
- the reason you need a QR code
- the content or page the QR code will link to
- how your QR code will be used in marketing and promotion - the channels you will be using, the number of users who will be targeted
- what the main message will be in your marketing and communications
QR codes can link to:
- internal Woking.gov.uk pages, for example /housing/council-tenants/pay-your-housing-rent/ways-pay-your-housing-rent/pay-your-housing-rent-direct-debit
- external Woking.gov.uk sub-domains, for example wokingsays.woking.gov.uk
Reasons you might need a QR code
You might want to use a QR code for:
- printed posters, leaflets or pull up banners
- letters
- static digital displays like those found at bus shelters
However, before deciding to use a QR code, first consider how users will use it.
Users do not always know what a QR code is or how it works. Some find them difficult to scan or may not have access to devices or software needed to read them.
Also, users may not scan them if:
- you are not clear where it will take them
- they are concerned about the risk of spreading malware or being tracked
You must also ensure they are accessible, you can do this by providing a:
- brief description of where the QR code takes the scanner
- a short URL to the website alongside the QR code
When your QR code goes live
We will create the QR code once the page it is pointing to goes live. Let us know if there is a strict deadline on when the page and QR code must go live.
Because QR codes can only point to live content, please do not publicise the QR code until both the content and the QR code are live. If you do it before they’re live, you’ll send your users to a ‘This page cannot be found’ error page.
We may pre-approve a QR code if you can share a draft of the page before it goes live.
What happens next
You will get a confirmation email with a work request reference number.
You can track the progress of your request by viewing our website work requests log.
