Request digital data (analytics)

How to request digital data and how to present it for content or forms on Woking.gov.uk.

You can raise a digital experience work request for data about content or forms on Woking.gov.uk.

Start now

This service is only available for internal staff.

You will need to tell us:

  • a clear title that explains the request - for example, ‘Are people using the housing repairs form or calling us’
  • what you're trying to achieve
  • what pages, sections or forms you want to know about
  • how our answers and suggested improvements will be used - for example on reports, internal team update or etc
  • deadline for the request

Do not ask for just raw data, you should ask us a question such as "are people using the housing repairs form".

How to ask for data as a question

When requesting data you should tell us what you're trying to achieve. You can follow the format of:

As a… [who you are]

I need/want to know… [what do you want to know?]

Reason... [what is the problem?]

So that… [what you're planning to do after we've provided you with an answer or feedback]

Example:

As a planning office, I want to know if users are using our pre-application planning advice, as we keep having to reject planning applications and want to improve our online product.

Reasons you might request data

Data plays an important and integral part in the planning and development of our online service. We use data to inform decisions as early as possible. This helps us to avoid more expensive, difficult and time-consuming changes later on.

You might request data to find out:

  • how users are finding your content - for example using Google
  • what users are hoping to see when they find your content
  • if the title’s misleading and users are expecting to find something else
  • if the page does not contain the words a user uses or recognises
  • how many users could be reading your content
  • if there’s essential information missing or if cannot find the information they need

You can also request data to:

  • completion rate - what percentage of transactions users successfully complete
  • digital take-up - what percentage of users choose your digital service to complete their task over non-digital channels

Getting accurate data

When you request data, keep in mind that:

  • certain data is only from users who opt in by clicking ‘Accept additional cookies’ in the cookies banner
  • the numbers found in different data tools will differ slightly, so avoid comparing data from different sources
  • you’ll usually not get accurate data before July 2025 - as we launched the new Woking.gov.uk

What happens next

You will get a confirmation email with a work request reference number.

You can track the progress of your request by viewing our website work requests log.

You can also read how we prioritised requests and how long we may take.
