To apply, you must:
- be 18 or older
- have a licensing qualification
- not had a personal licence taken away in the last 5 years
What you need to apply
When completing your application, you must:
- tell us about any criminal convictions (known as ‘disclosure of convictions’)
- provide 2 identical passport photos
- give a written statement signed by an approved professional to confirm it is you – this can be a solicitor, a person of standing in the community or anyone with a professional qualification
- show your licensing qualification certificate – you must be listed on the accredited qualification providers: personal licence to sell alcohol – GOV.UK
- give a current DBS certificate – if you do not have one you must request a basic DBS check – GOV.UK
- show proof of your right to work in the UK, such as a scanned copy of your passport – check if a document allows someone to work in the UK – GOV.UK
- pay the licence fee of £37

You can apply by post.

What happens next
We aim to process applications within 21 days once we receive everything we need.
Licence renewal
You do not need to renew your personal licence.
It remains valid unless it is:
- surrendered
- suspended
- revoked
- declared forfeit by a court
