This document sets out what we mean by domestic abuse – including coercive control and violence in personal relationships – and how we deal with it.
It explains how we support victims and their families, safeguard children and adults at risk, and work with partner agencies to prevent abuse.
The policy reflects our legal duties (such as the Domestic Abuse Act 2021), explains our commitments to victims and our approach to holding perpetrators to account.
The policy was introduced on 22 July 2025 and will be reviewed in July 2027.
The Domestic Abuse Policy includes:
- definitions of domestic abuse and related terms (including Violence Against Women and Girls)
- our pledge to provide a supportive response that treats victims with respect and understanding
- how we encourage reporting and respond to reports
- support measures for victims (including safety planning, housing and referrals to support services)
- how we work in partnership with other agencies
