Notice of intention to commence Local Plan preparation

View our notice of intention to start a new Local Plan for Woking.

Under the new planning system, we are required to publish a notice of intention to commence Local Plan preparation. This provides communities and other stakeholders with advance notice of plan‑making so they understand when and how they can get involved in preparing the new local plan for Woking.

The Minerals and Waste Local Plan for Surrey will not be incorporated into this local plan as it is being prepared separately. For more information see Minerals and Waste Local Plan - Surrey County Council

In accordance with Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026, Woking Borough Council gives notice it is preparing a new Local Plan that will cover the administrative area of Woking Borough Council, as shown in the map below.

The plan shall be referred to as the Woking Local Plan 2044.

  • Woking Civic Offices, Gloucester Square, Woking GU21 6YL during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 4:45pm)
  • at all libraries within Woking Borough during normal opening hours (check individual libraries for details)
