Notice of adoption of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Areas Avoidance Strategy Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

Statement of Adoption of Local Development Documents Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended) The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (as amended).

Notice is hereby given that in accordance with Regulation 14 and Regulation 35 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012, Woking Borough Council formally adopted the above Supplementary Planning Documents at its meeting on 22 January 2026. 

The Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Areas Avoidance Strategy SPD provides guidance to ensure that new development avoids potential harm to the integrity and conservation interests of the Special Protection Areas. 

The Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Areas Avoidance Strategy SPD was subject to public consultation between 5 September 2025 and 17 October 2025. A Consultation Statement setting out details on how the community was engaged in preparing the document has been published on the website. Paper copies of the Consultation Statement can be inspected at the various venues as set out below.

Any person aggrieved by the adoption of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Areas Avoidance Strategy SPD may make an application to the High Court under Section 113 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 on the grounds that: 

  • the document is not within the appropriate power; and/or 
  • a procedural requirement has not been complied with. 

Any such application must be made to the Court not later than three months starting from the date of the adoption (in this case, 22 April 2026).
