Executive agree measures that will support future of Sheerwater
A series of measures that will support the future regeneration of Sheerwater have been approved by the Executive.
The decisions resolve a number of longstanding land ownership, planning and highways matters linked to the regeneration scheme, ensuring arrangements are clear and aligned with future requirements.
As part of the agreed measures, a new permanent access road serving the Copper phase of the regeneration scheme will be delivered.
Part of the original regeneration plan, the road will replace the existing temporary access arrangement and provide a long-term solution for residents and future development activity in the area.
The Executive also approved a series of land and property ownership changes between Woking Borough Council and Thameswey that will simplify historic arrangements and help consolidate land ownership across the regeneration area.
Together, these measures will ensure key infrastructure and land ownership matters are resolved, providing a clearer basis for the future management and development of the remaining land within Sheerwater.
They will also help maximise proceeds from the sale of Thameswey Housing Ltd, supporting the council's wider work to simplify complex legacy arrangements and unwind historic investments that contributed towards the council's significant debt burden.
Speaking about the decisions, Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said:
Sheerwater continues to go through a long and complex regeneration, and it is important that we address the remaining land ownership and infrastructure issues properly.
These decisions represent an important step in doing that, helping to provide greater clarity and certainty for residents, whilst helping to resolve a number of longstanding matters across the regeneration area.
They will also ensure future decisions regarding Sheerwater can be taken with greater confidence, supported by clear land ownership and infrastructure arrangements.
