Natural Woking

Natural Woking is our biodiversity and green infrastructure strategy for the area. It sets out how we intend to enhance the provision and accessibility of green spaces, conserve existing biodiversity and habitats and creating opportunities for species to return to the borough.

Biodiversity encompasses the whole of the natural world. It is not restricted to rare or threatened habitats and species. Protecting biodiversity for future generations is critical to creating a sustainable borough.

At the same time, it’s important that we use our green spaces to benefit everyone's health and well-being. This ‘green infrastructure’ can be broken down into categories to describe a variety of natural and manmade land uses.

  • biodiversity and ecology
  • open space and recreation
  • open countryside
  • blue infrastructure, such as watercourses, ponds, lakes, sustainable urban drainage systems, floodplains and wetlands
  • food and crop growing
  • landscape.
