Extreme heat and health alerts
Both the Met Office and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have extended the red alerts for Surrey and the south east until 11pm on Friday 26 June.
We're updating the cladding across 14 medium-rise blocks on the Lakeview estate.
Our main actions to progress the project over the coming months.
We will be appointing a single contractor to undertake the refurbishment works.
After receiving expressions of interest, formal invitations to tender for the works were issued in February and responses are expected in April 2026.
Due to the refurbishment project including qualifying works, which will be recharged to leaseholders, a further Section 20 consultation will be required before the contract can be awarded.
This consultation will run for 30 days in line with current legislation and guidance. The extent of the recharges will not be known until the procurement process has been concluded.
It is anticipated that the contract award decision will be presented to the council’s Executive in June/July 2026 following tender evaluation and leaseholder feedback.
Prior to start-on-site, we will also need to ensure we discharge pre-commencement planning conditions, such as submitting a final landscaping scheme and final colour details/samples and specifications for aluminium panels.
Based on this, the programme currently assumes a start date in summer 2026.
Construction is expected to be delivered on a phased, block‑by‑block basis over approximately 30 to 36 months subject to confirming costs, budget and Local Government Reorganisation in Surrey transition.
The refurbishment works are expected to continue beyond the life of Woking Borough Council. The new West Surrey Council will need to demonstrate regulatory compliance in the same way Woking Borough Council does now.
