Both the Met Office and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have extended the red alerts for Surrey and the south east until 11pm on Friday 26 June.
Collect your dog if it has strayed
How to pay us, costs, proof you need to show us, arrange to collect your dog.
If we have collected your dog for straying in a public place, you must pay our costs before you can collect your dog.
You must pay us at least 20 minutes before you collect your dog.
We aim to return your dog within 12 hours of receiving your payment.
You are required to pay a £25 statutory fine and a collection cost.
You may also be liable to pay:
- kennelling costs – if we cannot identify you as the owner or contact you
- vet costs – if your dog requires medical treatment
- other reasonable costs

Owner collects dog from kennels note: If our local kennels are full, we may transfer your dog to a kennel outside of Woking borough.
In this situation, you are required to pay the fine and collection costs to us and any kennelling costs to the kennels company or rescue centre.
If you do not claim your dog within 7 days, it will be re-homed and become the property of the new owner.
Proof you need to collect your dog
You will need to provide:
- identification, such as driver’s licence or utility bill
- proof that your own the dog
Ownership proof can include either a:
- vet bill
- microchip number
- vaccination certificate
