Sheerwater regeneration
Information about the regeneration of Sheerwater and latest development plans.
Planning history for the Sheerwater regeneration
The regeneration of Sheerwater has been the subject of three planning consents.
- The first permission was obtained by New Vision Homes, a scheme that was subsequently abandoned as it was not financially viable. View PLAN/2015/1260 on the Planning Portal.
- ThamesWey submitted a revised hybrid planning application in March 2018. This was for a scheme that offered significantly more affordable family housing, assisted accommodation and increased green space. View PLAN/2018/0337 on the Planning Portal.
- A second application was submitted by ThamesWey in April 2018 for minor but material amendments to the consented scheme brought forward previously by New Vision. The changes mainly related to the leisure centre and sports facilities, and changes to the combined heat and power system. View PLAN/2018/0374 on the Planning Portal.
In July 2019, ThamesWey commenced work on a phased scheme, intended to deliver 1,142 homes and associated community infrastructure.
Four years later in July 2023, we ended our development agreement with ThamesWey due to the council's severe financial challenges. This effectively ended the project after 5 development phases.
