How we will support you with homelessness

If you are at risk of becoming homeless, you should contact us straight away.

We can help by:

  • arranging an appointment for you
  • assessing your situation and identify your housing support needs
  • providing you with a personal housing plan with details of what you can do

The personal housing plan will include attending appointments with Jobcentre Plus and details of other organisations to contact.

Next steps

As a starting point, we will try to keep you in your current accommodation. We will do this by either:

  • talking to your landlord or mortgage lender
  • getting you advice on how to manage your money, so you can afford to stay in your home
  • talking to your friends and family to see if they can help

If we are unable to do any of the above, we will look at your case to decide if we can help you.

If we cannot help you stay in your current home, we will look at whether we can offer you housing.

If we are able to help, we will offer you accommodation with enough beds for your family.

If we cannot offer you any help, you have 21 days from receiving our decision to ask an independent officer to review the decision again.

Providing you with housing

We may not legally have to provide you with housing. We must first work out if you:

  • qualify for housing
  • are in priority need
  • have not made yourself 'intentionally homeless'

If you do not qualify for housing, we can still provide advice and support you in finding somewhere to live.
