Lost and stray dogs

Our contractor, SDK, will collect stray dogs that have been captured or tied up.

Collecting your dog if it strayed

You will need to provide identification, such as driver’s licence or utility bill, and reasonable proof of ownership of the dog. Ownership proof can include:

  • vet bill
  • microchip number
  • vaccination certificate

Before you reclaim your dog, you must pay our stray dog collection charges.

Stray dog fees and charges

Before you reclaim your dog, you must pay our stray dog collection charges. After payment has been received, you can arrange a time to collect your dog.

Return stray dog to owner (no kennelling costs): £25 statutory fine and £65 collection fee. Total charge £90 per dog.

Stray dog collected by contractor and delivered to kennel (with kennelling costs): £25 statutory fine, £143 collection fee. Total charge £168, plus up to £35 a day kennelling fee.

Additional costs: SDK offers an additional service to return your dog to you from its approved kennels. This service costs £35 per dog and it is charged and payable directly to SDK.

Payments are made over the phone using a debit or credit card.

Telephone: 03444 828 300

The stray dog claiming service is available from 8.30am to 5pm, seven days a week.

Payment of your owed fees and proof of ownership and address must be received within seven days from date the dog was collected by SDK. If the dog is not claimed within seven days, it will be re-homed and will become the property of the new owner.

If your dog is collected by SDK outside of the standard office hours, and the owner can be identified and contacted, SDK can provide the details needed for an online payment. This will stop your dog being taken to kennels and reduce the amount payable. Payment is required within 20 minutes of collection.
