Community action around climate change
How we work with volunteers such as WEAct to raise climate awareness and run projects.
Our Woking for All Corporate Strategy was adopted in 2022, and includes a core ‘greener communities’ theme. This acknowledges our commitment to climate change action, and our role as a key influencer and enabler for engagement by others.
The Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) and the Vision for Net Zero (2024) help to guide their efforts. Local groups are working hard to raise local awareness and encourage climate action.
WEAct
WEAct: Woking Environment Action was formed in 1994 as Woking Local Agenda 21 (LA21). It is a group of volunteers who tackle global environmental concerns on a local scale.
In December 2023, it became a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). It is led by a Board of Trustees, appointed by members. They encourage sustainable living and working in Woking, by spreading awareness and running projects and activities.

WEAct coordinate the highly successful annual Great Big Green Week in Woking. This last took place on 2 to 15 June 2025.

Woking Repair Café
This is a monthly repair café organised by WEAct, which rotates around four local venues. It aims to reduce the amount of items going to landfill, and to help people learn more about repairing household items. It has now been running since June 2023 and is estimated to have repaired over 1,000 items.
