Apply to vote by post or by proxy (someone else votes for you) if you cannot get to your polling station on election day.
Vote by post
Postal voting is where we send you your ballot paper around 10 days before the election.
You can apply to vote by post if you cannot get to your polling station for any reason.
Once a postal vote is set up you cannot vote in person at your polling station, unless you cancel your postal vote.
You can apply for a postal vote by 5pm, 11 working days before the election.

Apply using a paper form
Visit the Electoral Commission to download a paper postal vote application form.
Send your completed form via post to our Electoral Services team.
You can also contact us to ask for a paper application form.
Cancel your postal vote
We must receive your cancellation request no later than 5pm, 11 working days before an election.
If you want to cancel your postal vote:
- you must do so in writing
- make sure you sign your request so that we can check this with your original application
We also accept scanned copy of the written request by email.
