By-elections: Hoe Valley and Woking South
Two by-elections will take place on Thursday 10 July 2025 following the resignation of Cllr Will Forster.
The by-elections will be held for the Woking Borough Council ward of Hoe Valley and the Surrey County Council division of South Woking.
Who can vote
You must be:

Vote in person at a polling station
You will need photo ID to vote a polling station.
All polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 10 July.

Vote by post
The application process for postal votes closed at 5pm on Wednesday 25 June 2025.
Return your completed postal vote
Follow the step by step instructions included in your postal vote pack.
Return your completed postal vote as soon as possible by taking it to a post box yourself.
If you cannot post your postal vote in time, you can take it a polling station. Your postal vote needs to be received by 10pm on polling day to be counted.
When handing in postal votes, you will need to complete a form. You will need to include:
- your name and address
- how many postal votes you are handing in
- why you are handing in those postal votes
Campaigners can only hand in their own postal vote, and postal votes for up to 5 other people that are either close relatives, or someone they provide regular care for.

Vote using a proxy (get someone to vote for you)
The application process for proxy votes closed at 5pm on Wednesday 2 July 2025.

Emergency proxy vote
You may be able to apply for an emergency proxy vote if any of the following apply:
- you cannot vote in person because of a medical emergency or disability
- you cannot vote in person because of your employment
- the photo ID you were planning on using to vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed
- you’ve not yet received a new or replacement photo ID you’ve ordered
You can apply for an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm on election day.
