Warning banner (body text) component

The warning banner component is a highlighted block of text, used to alert users to serious information they need to know. 

When to use this component

Use the warning banner component when you need to warn users about something important, such as legal consequences of an action, or lack of action, that they might take.

It can also be used to highlight:

  • the UK national emergency telephone, such as calling 999 to report a crime
  • our contact details in the case of an emergency, such as reporting an urgent repair  

When not to use this component

Use warning banner sparingly. They should only be used in there is a real user need. 

If the information is directly relevant to the thing the user is doing on that page, put the information in the main page content instead. 

How to add a warning banner

Warning banner are created using the toolbar in the WYSIWYG editor.  Select the text you want to use for the banner, then choose the alert danger option in the styles dropdown.

Examples of a warning banner

Call 999 if you are reporting a crime that is in progress or if someone is in immediate danger. For non-emergencies, you can call the police on 101.

You can be given a fixed penalty notice of between £60 and £80 if you repeatedly put items that cannot be recycled in your recycling bin.
