Notification banner (body text) component

Use a notification banner to tell the user about something they need to know about. It does not need to directly related to the page content.

When to use this component

You can use this component to tell the the user about something that’s not directly relevant to the thing they’re trying to do on that page. If the user needs to know something before they can continue, it must be put as content.

Use the notification banner to tell users about:

  • a problem that’s affecting the service as a whole (for example, delays in processing applications because of an emergency)
  • something that affects them in particular (for example, an approaching deadline they need to meet)

When not to use this component

Use notification banners sparingly. There’s evidence that people often miss them, and using them too often is likely to make this problem worse.

If the information is directly relevant to the thing the user is doing on that page, put the information in the main page content instead.

How to add a notification banner

Notification banners are created using the toolbar in the WYSIWYG editor.  Select the text you want to use for the banner, then choose the alert info option in the styles dropdown.

Example of a notification banner

It can take up to 8 weeks to register for a blue badge.
