Insert contact component

You can use the insert contact component to help users get in contact with a department or service team.

How it works

Order contact channels based on what research shows your users need, and what your service or department can best support.

Show contact channels in the same order throughout your service. This helps users to find what they need more easily.

You must:

  • write phone numbers in the GOV.UK style
  • link both phone numbers and email addresses
  • give opening hours (follow the GOV.UK style guide format for time ranges and date ranges)
  • explain any exceptions, like bank holidays, or days of the week when your opening hours are different
  • provide context as to why the user would need to contact you in the body text or give an example above the contact details for example "Get help with your application"

When to use this component

Use this component whenever you need to help users contact your team or department. Carry out contextual user research to decide exactly where to use this pattern in a page or service.

When not to use this component

You should not use this component:

  • where users do not expect or need contact information
  • when contact details would distract from the user’s main task - contact information should always be contextual and needed
  • when the service already provides an online form - unless there is a user need to also provide contact information

How to add insert contact

Insert text is created using the toolbar in the WYSIWYG editor. Select the text you want to create as a block of text, then choose the insert contact option in the styles dropdown.
