Get permission to make changes to your council home

How to request permission to make changes to your council home

You will need permission from us to carry out certain works to your home. This applies to tenants, leaseholders and shared owners.

You must let us know if you have already made alterations to your council home.

You must apply to your housing officer for permission to make changes to your council home. If you do not know the contact details of your housing officer, you can email us.

Email: housingmanagement@woking.gov.uk

Your housing officer will contact you with a decision about whether you can or cannot make the improvement. The decision is final.

Any appeals should be submitted to us by using the housing complaints process.

Planned work must follow planning and building control regulations, if they apply. If your planning permission has been approved, it does not mean you have landlord consent.

What you will need to tell us

We will need to know:

  • the type of improvement or alteration you want to make
  • the name of the person or company doing the work
  • a full specification of the materials that will be used
  • when the work will be carried out
